Russ Schulte

Russ is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over two decades of clinical experience. His counseling services include individual counseling, couples therapy and family therapy. Over the years his interests have lead to many certifications that have improved his clinical skills and effectiveness. For instance, he has been a Certified Sexual Addiction Specialist (via C-SASI) for over a decade because he wants to bring hope to those struggling with sexually compulsive behaviors. He is one of the only Certified Internal Family Systems Therapists in the state of Mississippi and is also a Board Certified TeleMental Health (BC-TMH) counselor in the state as well. Other trainings and experiences include working with adolescents and their families and advanced couples therapy trainings from Drs. John and Julie Gottman.
Russ earned his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University. He went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) in Jackson, MS. Since graduating from RTS he has enjoyed a wide range of work experiences. Some of those included a Community Mental Health Center in Vicksburg, a psychiatric facility for adolescents in Jackson, and a local counseling private practice before helping start Watershed Counseling Associates, PLLC in 2013.
Over his professional career Russ has given numerous talks and workshops on adolescent issues, sexual addiction, adoption, marriage enrichment, foster care, attachment and sexual identity. In one instance, he and his wife traveled internationally so Russ could provide marriage enrichment workshops using a translator.
A growing interest of his includes helping facilitate other professionals develop greater understanding and skill applying the Internal Family Systems therapy model with their clients. This is because of the incredible impact IFS therapy is having on the diverse issues and population of people he has the privilege to work with.

Russ seeks to live an authentic, simple and humble life in the Lord, surrendering to God’s call wherever He leads. He and his wife have have been married beyond twenty years and have four daughters. They have experienced the joys and pitfalls of being a licensed foster care family in Mississippi which was how they adopted their youngest daughter. Russ grew up in St. Louis, MO, and loves watching Cardinal baseball, enjoys working with his hands creating or rehabbing projects, and generally looks for new ways to keep his sanity in the midst of a house full of amazing women.
